I am not a person who tried Amway and failed but rather someone who built the business with great passion and enthusiasm to the coveted Founders Emerald level. After nearly a decade of recruiting many good, honorable people into the business," including my own father, I made disturbing discoveries. We had worked with thousands of hard working, trusting distributors.
After a decade of investing in this, I was the last one on earth who wanted to discover and then document nearly a 99% loss rate for consumers induced to invest in their own Amway business."
I was a loyal, trusting IBO for almost a decade, building an international Amway / Quixtar business when I discovered the fraud. Naively following protocol, I relayed these facts directly to Amway / Quixtar corporation senior management and the shocking events that followed revelations of IBO deception are chronicled in detail in the compelling book Merchants of Deception.
My wife and young son were threatened anonymously and multiple legal actions were filed against me as I exposed the truth to protect millions from the being systematically defrauded.
Hundreds of thousands have gotten the book and thousands of victim testimonials have poured in from over 40 nations.
People who were deceived in other multi level marketing groups in an identical manner have responded as well. Are there some legitimate direct selling businesses? Yes, but how can you know?

If you or a loved one has ever been recruited into a multi level marketing business, this book is a must read. Why have Dateline NBC, Business Week, Forbes, ITV (Europe), the UK DTI Companies Investigation Division, the FBI, the IRS and law enforcement in India interviewed me regarding Merchants of Deception? That answer and many more are in the book itself.

"Mr. Scheibeler's book is a chilling portrayal of the process by which intelligent people can persist for years in pursuing the Amway dream while making no money. It is all the more significant because he earned his way to one of the highest distributor levels in the Company. He understands the subtle methods used to keep distributors reaching for the brass ring even in the face of dismal earnings and how they are prevented from learning from each other that many, if not most, are in the same boat.
Scheibeler describes the mental conditioning that diminished his ability to make critical judgments in the face of overwhelming factual evidence and his guilt about not attending meetings even after he had decided to leave the company. I learned of similar experiences from ex-distributors when I interviewed them for the State of Wisconsin's Amway litigation in the early 80's. Such conditioning may explain why the tax returns (obtained for this litigation) of all active Wisconsin Direct Distributors, the company's top 1%, showed an average net income of minus $900. Why did these men and women persist in earning their way to Direct Distributor status under these economic circumstances? Eric Scheibelers book answers this question for those whose minds are clear enough to read its pages."

My family is and has always been very very close. My son is a very well rounded individual. Unfortunately he was recruited through misrepresentations into the Amway/Quixtar business. My husband and I started seeing very strange changes in our son. We did not know where to turn. We had so many fears as we saw our child developing a personality that was not him. He had a dazed and confused look at all times, he was very distant and had very little interest in our family or his life long friends. We were literally scared to death. We knew something was not right with Quixtar but we could not figure out exactly what it was. With a family as close as ours, you know when something is not right.
My husband started researching the changes in our son and his new life with Quixtar. This is when my husband found Eric Scheibeler. I can honestly say that by finding Eric Scheibeler it saved our sons life. Eric Scheibeler helped us understand the fraudulent activities that were involved in the business , as well as the mental indoctrination that was being done to our son. Eric Scheibelers book, Merchants of Deception, was literally word for word as to what was being done to our son. When I say word for word, I mean word for word. I often wonder where my child would be today if it wasnt for Eric Scheibelers compassionate advice. I also dont know where my husband or I would be because Eric Scheibeler counseled us on a daily basis. He told us each and every day that we should keep the faith because we would get our son back. To this day, I dont believe that would have happened without Eric and his life changing his book.

Eric Scheibeler's new book, Merchants of Deception is a must read! It reveals the inner workings of one of the largest privately held companies in the world, whose distributor force has used deceit and mind control techniques to ensnare millions of people around the world. Cult mind control techniques are not only used in religious groups they have entered the world of business and everyone must become aware of it, or risk the consequences. Eric Scheibeler has shown in this book, how intelligent, educated mainstream citizens can be seduced and controlled.
After his years of committed leadership with Amway, he experienced most of the characteristic psychological problems people have after walking away from a cult. As a licensed mental health counselor, I can say that I am convinced that there is a cult mind control problem with the Amway Motivational organization's system. I have been counseling people with cult mind control problems for over twenty years, and Eric Scheibeler s problems fit the classic profile. I am so pleased to see that he has worked hard on his recovery and that he is so dedicated to share his experience and knowledge. He is courageous and I heartily applaud the release of this important, new book.
