Here's a legend about the extraordinary shape-shifting Bulgarian dragon, the zmey. Briefly, the story goes that one year a zmey living near the village of Russokastro transformed himself into a young man and went to watch the horo (chain dance) in the village square. Unfortunately he forgot to tuck his dragon tail into his trousers properly and a maiden called Russa spotted his wardrobe mishap. She burst out laughing. Hey, she cried, Your tail is showing! Ashamed and angry, the dragon summoned a whirlwind, lifted Russa up and carried her away to his cave where she became his bride
.The cave is now called Russen Kamuk (Russas Stone) after the girl.
